Second LINQS Meeting…

…by Karen Lane Today saw the second meeting of LINQS at The Coach and Horses public house in Billinghay.  We had a good turn out of 25 ladies, most of whom arrived early to take advantage of the delicious lunch time menu! image Sheila informed the group that we now have 39 members so we have the potential for a serious travelling exhibition once the quilts are finished!  Sheila also confirmed that several venues have shown an interest in displaying the DH quilts in 2016.  The group were asked to vote for their “top 3” ideal venues for the launch of the DH collection, not surprisingly, top of the list was Salts Mill.  Fingers crossed this comes off! image Several members brought their “work in progress” quilts to show the group while others brought images of the paintings they are intending to use as inspiration. image Jean’s beautiful hand sewn quilt (above) is influenced by Hockney’s paintings of “Woldgate Woods” has a background created from a jelly roll with appliqué in the foreground. image The colours and shapes in Karin’s quilt (above) have clearly been influenced by those seen in the painting of Garrowby Hill. imageRosie is also planning to create a piece based on Garrowby Hill.  It’s all in her head at the moment but her fabrics have been selected and are ready for the cutting mat!image Molly brought her sketch book with the preliminary drawings she did for her quilt. image   Molly’s quilt is a combination of machine and hand stitching and takes its influence from several of the paintings she saw on her visit to Salts Mill. image Sandra has discovered an interesting work with the title “Three Green Waves with Orange Sand” in the book “Hockney Paintings: The Definitive Retrospective”.  This will form the basis of her project. image For her influence Pat has chosen the 12th in the series of VN paintings which Hockney produced in the 1990’s. image Carole can’t remember the name of the painting that was the inspiration for her quilt but it had a red background and a wine glass.  The red background is done and Carole told the group she will be trying out a new technique to create the glass.  Follow this blog to see how Carole and the other ladies develop their ideas and to see photos of the finished quilts. It would be great to feature more of your ideas/work on here so if anyone out there would like to submit photos for inclusion in this blog you can email them to me at lincsinstitches@gmail.com
